David R Zimmerman (Writer)

David R. Zimmerman
was born and raised in the Los Angeles area and started
playing piano at the age of 8. By the time he was 14 he was
taking lessons to be a professional pianist. A few years
later he got the opportunity to study with the great Harry
Fields, who was the best Classical/Jazz teacher of his time.
Realizing that composition was his main inspiration,
Zimmerman (then 19), decided to bypass an education at
Julliard's in order to devote himself fully to a
contemporary music career. After playing in several
local bands, Zimmerman signed with Epic records recording
artist Danny Spanos in 1984, and toured with that band.
During the years that followed, Zimmerman recorded and
gigged with several artists including Miracle Mile, Human
Drama, Memoryburn, and Damien Youth.
Although music was his original
inspiration, Zimmerman gained an interest in script and
stage writing in 2005 when several faculty members at the
Lee Strasburg Theater and Film Institute gave him praise in
reference to a short monologue written for a student.
Subsequently Zimmerman worked with Strasburg faculty staff
Sasha Krane and Hedy Sontag-Gierasch on several writing
projects. In the last few years, Zimmerman has written 2
plays; along with several short one act’s, and also was
involved in writing work on a possible TV project. |
